The Huck Dynasty Grows

Boutheina and Rob (and Maya, if we’re looking at the whole picture) are some of the most well known, well-loved people in axe throwing. They’ve shaped the sport’s community and competition in ways that few others can claim. So it came as no surprise (but lots of excitement) that they recently shared new, planned ownership of Warriors Axe Throwing in Cobourg, Ontario.

While things are certainly in early stages, the Hucks were kind enough to answer a few questions about what they’re planning with their operation of the axe venue, what throwers can expect and the driving force behind their decision to get involved.

What are you hoping to enhance or change at Warriors Axe Throwing?

What we really want is for more people to fall in love with axe throwing the way we did. We want Warriors Axe Throwing to be a place where strong competitors push each other, encourage each other, and grow together. Not just a venue, but a real centre for this sport. A space where people fall in love with axe throwing and grow in it. And honestly, we are hoping one day to host the first Grand Slam in Canada right here at Warriors.

What are your big concerns? Anything you’re actively addressing currently?

Like with any business transition, there is a lot happening behind the scenes right now. We are working through the details to make sure everything runs smooth for our customers and our staff while we settle in. Nothing that worries us, just normal things that come with taking over a business.

Is there anything you’re hoping to introduce to axe throwing with your co-ownership? Any new tourneys or leagues or something wild?

We want to keep building on what is already strong, events like the Ultimate Showdown Series and March to Glory, but bigger, with more events added. We are also planning something new, we are calling it Throw Clinic, where throwers can come and work on their technical throw, form, accuracy, whatever needs sharpening. And because of our relationships in the sport, we want to bring in some of the best throwers in the world to help run these events and coach throwers one on one.

How do you hope to affect the community even more than you’re doing now?

Warriors Axe Throwing will continue to be a place that gives back to the sport, not just a business. We want to keep supporting new throwers, especially women and youth, helping them learn the game, build their form, and fall in love with axe throwing the way we did. We want Warriors to be a place where beginners feel welcome to try, and where the next generation of strong throwers can actually grow here.

I’ve only spoken to Ryan once in my life, but he seemed like he really cared about making axe throwing as affordable and approachable as possible. How is he going to remain involved in Warriors, and why is that such a benefit to you?

Maverick is one of the pillars of this sport. Honestly, we are in axe throwing today because of him. Right now we are in a transition period, and he is continuing to help us, guiding us until we feel fully independent running Warriors. But he is not going anywhere. He will stay a strong member of the Warriors family, someone we can always lean on for help and support.
