This was the very first axe thrower interview I did at IATC 2026, and it shows: I didn’t really ask many follow up questions, stuck to what I wrote down (frantically) on the trip to Port Lands, and (in listening to the recording), I was hella nervous about speaking to a person. But, alas, Maydayy was kind and patient enough to let me struggle through.
It’s a pleasure to meet you, MaydayyMaydayy! Where do you throw, and why are you here at the IATC?
I throw at Perple Bunny’s Axe House — originally Minnesota, but now in Eau Claire.
I love the axe throwing community. I feel like it’s really fun. I’m not great, but I love playing against people who are really great.
I have the exact same thing where I’m not that good, but I love throwing against really, really good throwers. I feel like developmentally it does so much for your game.
Absolutely. I play against the same exact people because I only have the one at axe house close to me, and it’s still an hour and 45 minutes away. So I’m constantly playing with the same people and then coming here, it’s so many really amazing throwers to learn from.

Yeah. And it’s remarkable how quickly seeing somebody do something just a little bit different unlocks your brain to be like, “Oh, I can do that. I can do something very close to that. ” Or you spin on it for weeks and figure out some new thing. It’s the best thing in the world.
Going back and watching the recordings for everyone throwing on Sunday last year and just sitting there and watching how they throw and studying how they throw it, it’s like, all right, cool. I think I can kind of mimic that. And then working on that for a little bit has improved so much with my game.
What’s one piece of advice that you would give for new throwers? Oh, how long have you been throwing?
A year and some change.

Perfect – you’re practically an expert. For a newer thrower, what piece of advice would you give to them?
You can always get better.
You’re going to have plateaus; you’re going to be really good and then you’re going to suck and then you’re going to kind of back up there and it’s just kind of an ebb and flow and you get better.
What’s something you wish you did before coming here?
Throw more.
Do you have a secret weapon in axe throwing?
I don’t think so.
Nothing? For me, when I think about that, it’s like some people are like, “Man, I hope we go to big axe, or I hope I go to clutch, or once I lock in, I know that I’m going to hit all my bulls.”

Do you think you’re more flexible than that, or is there something that if you get to it, you know you’re going to do all right, or people underestimate about you?
I don’t think so. I think I’m pretty average. I have a lot of really good times and a lot of okay times. I think maybe my secret weapon is just not letting the bad times hit me too hard.
That’s a true secret weapon. Yeah, that’s huge.
I think in this sport, if you can be really good at it and also treat it like it is just a game, I think you’ve unlocked something. Because people get stuck.
It’s a really big head game and If you get into your head, it’s really hard to get back out of it. And so if it’s just kind of like, “All right, well I dropped three times that last round, we’re just going to pick it up and not do it. “
Is there anyone responsible for you getting to this point in your axe throwing career?
Oh gosh, Perple Bunny has been a really huge, important person in my axe throwing career. Honestly, everyone who throws at Perple Bunny’s, Rep Unga Bunga, they’ve all been super fantastic and super supportive and anytime we all make mistakes and Boots on Monday was just telling me like, “All right, cool, for your big axe – because I’ve been dropping every single one.” She’s like, “You need to reset your gravity and keep throwing.”
They’re always encouraging me to do better, encouraging me to practice. It’s really exciting. I’ve gone head to head rubber match with Ginji before and I’m like, “That is the coolest thing I think I’ve ever done before.”
Anybody you want to shout out in particular? Anything you want to add?
Big shout out to Perple Bunny, Perple Bunny’s Axe House. Big shout out to Boots. I love her. Big shout out to everybody there. And then everybody here has been so nice. So big shout out to everyone at IATC.
