Axe Throwing League Trophies: going big.

Axe throwing league awards

Friends. Dearest sweet thowkin. Axe throwing league trophies were very hit-or-miss at my local venue. Not so much the prizes (which are pretty generous, truth be told), but a physical marker of achievement? It really came down to whether someone wanted to make one or not – that person often being me.

But sometimes I hear an idea, and it burrows it’s way so deep into my brain that I can’t help but do something about it. Take, for instance, my deep and relatively short-lived venture into medieval ink making, or my adventures into mustache-wax making.

So when Rob (I think) mentioned getting championship belts for the meadery, I found myself unwilling to wait. But there was an issue: If I didn’t want to handmake the belts (and have them look like a hastily assembled bit of prop for a middle school production of Savvy Randy: Randy Savage in the Romance Years), I needed to purchase said belts from a company that, you know, does that sort of thing.

And friends, those belts are ‘spensive.

But you know what wasn’t nearly as expensive? Championship chains, beebee:

With the ability to customize the fronts and a deep lean towards the absurd, I picked up two (one for each of our regular leagues), and as soon as they arrived, I presented them to our 2 past league champs. A few notes, here:

1. I wore these on my neck, under my hoodie, for about an hour until everyone had shown up to league. That’s 4 pounds of metal. It felt amazing to take ’em off.

2. The rule is that if you lose your next league, you give them the chains. You know, making them historic and much more important in a few dozen years.

3. They are so goofy.

A few league folks chipped in some cash to make it a reality, and honestly if you wanna get ’em for your own league (or for a tourney you’re putting on, on whatever), you can find them and so much more here. While I don’t think I’ll be wearing one in earnest anytime soon, it’s nice to have something to dream about.
