Victoria "Big Vic Energy"

Big Vic Energy, despite being incredibly busy at the Urban Open, took a minute to talk to me about axe throwing and where the sport is going. Here is an abridged transcription of our tiny axe throwing interview!

What have you noticed about the composition of axe throwers - has it been changing recently or has it stayed pretty consistent?

I think as axe throwing has been getting bigger, the quality of axe thrower has been increasing, too. I coach a league here in Baltimore and I've been watching my league steadily getting better and better. One of my guys, Kevin, got his first 81 this season and then he won the league. It's only his third season. He took third last night. I see people coming in and getting good, quick.

[[Here, dear reader, was a minute or two interruption as Big Vic Energy had to do some administrative stuff that was brought to them. During this time I learned that there was D&D stuff that was up for a community raffle and I got very excited about it.]] What do you like best about how you throw?

I just want to have fun. And I like, especially with tournaments in my home spot, to have fun. All my friends are here, my picture is on the wall. So as long as I'm having fun. If it all becomes too much, then I'm not here for it.

What do you think IATF in general can do to increase interest or promote the health of the sport?

That's a good question. It's probably all about the social media game right now, isn't it? Probably posting more there will get more, younger people in. The crowd here today isn't very young, and we need to get younger people in the door.
