Tiny Axe Thrower Interview: Otter Guy

A man with a beard in a beaver onesie.
The Otter Guy, dressed as a beaver.

During our last Thursday league night, I cornered Otter Guy as he kept score. Two wonderful things happened during this tiny axe thrower interview:

  • The interview started, no lie, with the sound of two axes tapping

  • He was wearing a beaver onesie. I don't know why - I didn't ask - but it felt right?

So please just note there are moments where Otter Guy says things that might seem like they come out of nowhere. Worry not - he's just multitasking.

What do you think is great about [Meduseld Meadery] compared to other axe houses? It's where I started throwing. I mean it's my home, it's where it all began for me, and that makes it the best place to throw axes.

What do you like best about your own throw?

It's really one-of-a-kind. I went back to stepping on to my left foot after my knee healed up throw number three, so -

Oh - what happened to your knee?

I tore my meniscus at the beginning of the year in February, and had it operated on in April. I learned to step on my right foot because I couldn't step on my left leg throw number four.

Is it true for a while you were throwing while using a cane?

I tried, it didn't work so great.

What do you think axe houses can do-

Final axe Coach up by five

What do you think axe houses can do to increase the size/involvement in the sport?

Keep it low pressure. Keep it fun and enjoyable for everybody. I know we're all chasing the 81s and the big points and moving into premier and stuff, but keep it fun. Actually you guys tied that round, tap axes and switch sides.
