Tiny AITC Axe Thrower Interview: Baby Deer Ankles (Katelyn Causey)

Katelyn Causey

I'd seen Katelyn around at Urban Baltimore a few times, but never got a chance to sit down (in this case, stand around) and interview her. I decided to pluck up the courage during IATC, thanks to a series of drinks and other successful interviews. Here's the tiny IATC interview:

How long have you thrown?

About four-and-a-half years, now! I picked it up during the pandemic when everything was closed, then my best friend Dave [I think Briccado? Rickato? Listen, it's difficult when you interview someone and they assume you know a lot of people in the sport. I don't want to interrupt them, and it leads to this. She also said his axe throwing name which may have been kittycado? Kittycato?? I LOOKED IT UP IT'S DAVE BRUCATO. ] he was the manager [of the axe house] at the time, and he was like "as long as you guys clean up after yourselves you're good to go."

Do you throw out of Urban Baltimore? I think that's where I saw you first?

Oh, no - I throw out of Clutch Shot Axe Throwing in Pennsauken. I Also throw out at Choppers in their Monday Night league.

I take it this isn't your first IATC?

Funny enough it is - I qualified the last three years but I didn't get my passport til this year. Life happens, and it just lined up this time around. I quit my job and start my new one in two weeks, so here we are.

You've been in the game a while - longer than me. What are some things newer throwers or inexperienced throwers really focus in on, to advance themselves?

I think it's all about having a good time, and surrounding yourself with people who want you to do better as well. Like, I started throwing in the Monday Industry League (Choppers) and I'd never hit my first 81. I had a good community of people behind me to cheer me on, and walk me through everything - you just gotta find your people. Find the people who want to help you grow as well. It's what I think makes the sport special.

What are/were your goals for this IATC?

Pretty much to not go 0 and 2. I went 2 and 2 so I'm pretty excited about that. I got to see some people I care about - I knocked out Julio which scared the crap out of me, so it was a good moment for me.

What's different, in your opinion, about this tournament compared to other tourneys?

I feel like the amount of the community, from all over the world, from all these different backgrounds, is amazing. We're here to have a good time throwing at wood boards. Go sports!

Anything you wanna add or shout out or anything like that?

I want to thank all my friends at Choppers and Clutch Out Axe Throwing for just being a great community. Kick axe, go sports ball!
