We live in a fascinating, modern time.
We got hot pockets. We got tiny gramaphones in our pockets that play almost all the music ever made in the last 1,000 years.
We got pet videos like, whenever we want.
But, for whatever reason, our league-night streams are some of the most boring things to watch. Ever. Sometimes I put them on at night just to fall asleep faster. No, it's not weird. I'm sure there's no psychological impact of hearing a bunch of axe throwers shout non sequiturs while I'm in REM.
But there are things, I think, we as a community could do to make our axe streams just a little bit more...I dunno...engaging. Here are my humble suggestions if you wanna spice up your boring ass league-night streams:
Have surprise guests, like - really surprising, tho.
There's a reason that Where's Waldo captured the hearts and minds of Scholastic Book Fair attendees for so long. It's a delight to the primal part of ourselves that craves finding something hidden. So why not tap into that innate want by hiding a special little guest in every single stream?
This could be a tiny, haunted doll. Or a lizard in a little hat that appears only once during a stream, and only for one minute. Just something that pushes people to keep watching for the chance to snap their fingers and whistle at the screen, DiCaprio style.
Oh! It could also be something like a shirt-change sight gag - or a sudden moustache on an otherwise babysmooth face. We want an image search, and you can provide it. Fuggin ANYTHING but 2 hours of watching people's backs.
Dedicate part of your stream to educating the viewing audience on the 1985 hit by A-ha "Take on Me."
Learning is power, and what could be more powerful than educating stream viewers on important topics, like how A-ha performed at two Nobel Peace Prize concerts or how the original version of "Take on Me" came out in 1984 but didn't even make it out of the UK - but the second version of the song made it to #1 in 27 countries.
Listen, it doesn't HAVE to be facts about "Take on Me" but you get the point. You have an amazing opportunity, here, to tell people about the little known facts of this world, and you can hit two clutches at once if you just multitask a little bit. So dust off your pop-up video facts or that 882 1/2 facts about the Titanic book and provide viewers with a little more bang for their buck.
Bring your viewers in on a murder mystery.
People love mysteries! They love suspense and thrill! Why not tap into the success of great murder mystery novels from times gone by and give your viewers a sub plot?
I know this sounds hard, but hear me out:
First Match: show two people arguing to the side of the throwers in between rounds.
Second Match: One of those two people re-appears, looking bedraggled and hiding sOmEthING near the throwing lanes.
Third Match: One of the throwers notices the hidden thing. IT'S A CANDLESTICK OR SOME SHIT!
Forth Match: Two throwers, during the match, point off screen and are seen carrying a body past the camera. Someone in the axe venue gets a weird pipe and a goofy hat.
Fifth Match: OH SHIT, THE PERSON WHO WE ALL THOUGHT WAS MURDERED JUST WALKED BY?!
Sixth Match: Have your viewers guess who was actually murdered, by how, and by who.
Super simple. And super engaging!
Use the same stream to film your OnlyFeet™ content.
If nothing else, you're making money while throwing. Hell, maybe you'll bring some more people into axe throwing, too. Chances are, you'll have to do some contortion to get both your lil' piggies and the target in the same shot, but if you are already a content creator on OnlyFeet™, chances are you're used to that sort of thing.
And before you ask: yeah. I just saw a ton of feets to get that logo. So many feets. I don't get it, but don't let me yuck your yum, you know. Oink oink them lil' piggies if that's your thing, right?
So, if you could. Hey - listen: if you could, please consider adding a lil' something extra to your next stream. Make it an event. We owe it to each other, yes?
