Knives Out: The New IATF Knife Throwing League, and what it really means.

The IATF announced yesterday (in an announcement telegraphed so far in advance it could have stopped the Titanic from hitting that iceberg) that knife throwing is now part of their bevy of throw-pointed-things repertoire. You can read all about it here.
But I'm not gonna talk about that. Well, at least not in any way that adds to the conversation about a knife throwing league in particular. Because, frankly, there is a much bigger story to cover.
With the addition of the IATF knife throwing league, Rogue is now available for possible party composition.
We had barbarian already, obviously. Yes, yes, the argument could be made that axe throwing is actually better suited to a ranger or even a fighter class, but for reasons that will be obvious, axe throwing as the barbarian class makes the most sense.
Let's go over where we're at, and what we're missing.
![]() | Axe: Barbarian Like, duh. Throwing axes. Actual skill hiding behind the appearance of brute strength. Drinking and not being very clever. You get it. |
![]() | Shovel: Ranger Okay, okay listen. Hear me out. Rangers are often in nature. They gotta make boom booms. And they gotta make themselves lil' holes for the boom booms to go. Hence: shovels are a ranger weapon. Don't @ me. Don't you dare. (I know bows would be the thing to go here, but I don't know if the IATF will dip into archery in the future. That's, like, a whole thing. |
![]() | Shovel: Maybe Cleric??? I'm allowed to disagree with myself. So maybe shovel is actually the cleric class. It's something typically meant for utility, but can be used on the offensive? I dunno. I think you could be a cleric or a ranger with a shovel. Why not. |
![]() | Knife: Rogue Thanks to IATF's recent announcement, we can finally round out the party with a rogue class. At least in the most traditional representation of a rogue. I'm still waiting for the rules clarification on using arcane daggers so I can be an arcane trickster, but that might take a while. |
![]() | MISSING: Sorcerer/Wizard I think this is the most important thing for the IATF to address. We don't yet have a discipline that makes sense to count towards the sorcerer/wizard classes. Maybe paper airplanes? Or like, letter opener throwing? I dunno. Help me out, here. |
So, all-in-all, a good addition to the party. But we still gotta solidify our ranged spellcasters. Here's to hoping the IATF announces a fireball league soon.
