I Missed the 1-Year Anniversary of The Axe Badger, and a Request

WHOOPSIE DOODLE

This blog turned 1 on June 12 of this year and, being the irresponsible parent that I am, I totes missed it. To be fair to myself, June 12th was a tricky time to remember anything given travel abroad/to IATC and all that, but I really dropped the hatchet on that one. My bad, little blog. My bad.

So, with that half-hearted apology to a non-sentient website out of the way, let’s take a look at what we (me, the humble narrator, and you, the sweet, cutie reader) accomplished over the year as part of this "Axe Badger anniversary".

THE BIG NUMBERS:

Well, it looks like almost 4,500 of you goobers came to look at the absurdity of this site, and ya’ll looked at this nonsense just over 11,000 times. I don’t know what these numbers mean but they do release that serotonin I crave, so thanks!

What can I say? Fake news sells. That number 1 post was one of the first posts I wrote in 2023, and was singularly the most visited. Should have quit while I was ahead.

BOTTOM 3 POSTS:

Okay, to be fair to the content, specifically, these were my very first posts, more or less. Not so much a judgement on the Premier by IATF (which is a very nice axe, all told) as a judgement on me shouting into the void of the interwebs.

SO HOW DO I/WE CELEBRATE A FULL YEAR OF HOT TAKES, INTERVIEWS, AND AXE THROWING EPHEMERA?

Hell, I don’t know. I guess I just keep writing things I’m thinking about, and hopefully a few of you keep reading it? Like so many things in this corner of fringe sport, this is a labor of love. The cost in money and time is significant, but I have heard from enough folks that the blog adds to their enjoyment of the sport so…like…that’s enough for me. I don’t think I’ll ever be a big name in axe throwing because I win a bunch of tourneys or build the very best hatchet. But maybe I can have a lil’ impact by entertaining and informing folx – and that’s just fine by me.

But then, dear reader, it occurred to me that I haven’t really introduced myself on this blog, nor am I well known enough in the sport for people to know who I am. So I thought it might be beneficial/fun/appropriate to do an interview with myself.

WITH THAT IN MIND, A FAVOR/REQUEST:

There is a little contact box at the bottom of each blog post:

If you’re into it, why not send me a question to answer in a “axe throwers ask” 1-year interview post I’ll do soon (once I get a fair amount of questions). If it goes gangbusters I’ll select the most interesting questions and go from there - but I suspect that won’t be a problem.

Feel free to ask me anything about the blog, about me (as the person running the blog, or as an axe thrower, or as a human), or whatever cute/clever thing you can think of.

I know it’s a bit of a weird/egotistical ask, so thanks in advance if you’re willing to forgive the indulgence.

A FINAL, SINCERE NOTE

Over the course of this blog-year, I’ve been blown away by the support, kindness, and excitement from people who read The Axe Badger.

It honestly made/makes my life so much better, and the thought of adding happiness to other people in the sport is, truly, one of the great joys I’ve had since starting this whole thing up. I don’t take any of it for granted.
