Choptober 2024 is Here. But I'm not there (yet).

Choptober 2024 poster

For the first time since IATC, I'm taking off of work to fiddle-faddle my way to an axe throwing tourney. I can't really say I have any goals for Choptober - I'm just thrilled to finally be a part of the thing.

Yes, dear reader, this will be my very first time going to Choptober, and I have no expectations short of getting overwhelmed, doing poorly, and walking around without pants on A LOT in my hotel room.

But I do have some hopes: First, I hope that I'll do my Yahtzee team proud (in as much as I won't completely goofus-a-doofus everything), I also hope that I'll get a real feel for what Choptober is all about - it's such a big cultural event for the sport that I'm hoping it lights a fire in me that only halloween-themed axe throwing tourneys can. And finally - and I wanna be really clear on this - I hope I remember to actually take notes and shit for blog posts. Because honest-to-hatchets my brain is empty of content. Content and most everything else, these days.

I'M THROWING WITH AUSTRALIANS

While it might sound like I'm a high school kid who is trying to impress their friends, my blog is actually a pretty well-read thing in Australia (at least in axe throwing circles, I mean). So imagine my surprise when Tex (don't let the name fool you) sent me a message and invited me to join in their Yahtzee team. I'm bringing Rob (AKA Otter Guy, AKA The Appalachian Gentleman) and they're bringing along Amy (AKA Pebbles).

And while it's cool and feels special to be invited to a team made up of international throwers, it feels even COOLER to be invited to a team at all. Are we gonna dominate the competition? Absolutely not - but we're gonna have a hoot while attempting to throw random shit, and that's pretty fun to look forward to.

I'M ALREADY EXPERIENCING A FAIR AMOUNT OF ANXIETY ABOUT BEING SEEN

You know this song and dance from me, but here we are.

I'm very excited to see new and familiar faces, and thrilled to be going - but boy howdy, I'm already trying to figure out where in Choppers I can hide my round little body. So if you see me hiding in a trash can, you just go ahead and throw your half-eaten sandwich on my head and say nothing. Thanks in advance.

I'LL HAVE A FEW STICKERS TO HAND OUT

I'm not as popular or well organized as AALOTO, so don't expect any t-shirts or purchasable products from me - but I will have some axe-sized stickers to hand out, and I'll be ever-so-happy to do just that. So if you see me about, feel free to hit me up for the only currency that matters in our sport. The currency of stick-ums.

To everyone throwing today in the marathon, have a blast! I'll see you little chippers tomorrow morning!

So jealous of you and the Aussies getting over there for this massive cultural jewel in the Axe worlds crown. Have a blast man, soak it up and give us the deets !

I’m so excited to be able to experience Choptober for the first time as well. Can’t wait to see how Otter Guy, Tex, Pebbles and yourself does during Yahtzee.
